INTRO
I am turning 50 years young, my golden age, when I started writing this unexpected book. This is my 50th birthday gift to you. Actually, being a songwriter artist-musician is also unexpected. Since childhood, never have I thought that this thing will happen. Imagine, within just a year, I was able to produce and release at least 50 original songs or 5 music albums! I said at least, because in actuality, those 50 songs are all in Filipino language; which exclude the all-English songs I wrote – an EP containing 5 tracks. That feat is not easy. Ask most of your musician friends to verify. You’ll be surprised that making original music is a big challenge. Most especially to someone like me who is not a gifted musician. I may not be great in singing nor in playing musical instruments, but I am really creative, innovative, and inventive. If you will try to research about me, you’ll discover that I’m an award-winning inventor, innovator, designer, and entrepreneur. Search my name. Now that explains why I am creative with words, innovative in making melodies and a bit inventive with my chord progressions. But then again, that doesn’t mean that making music is just easy. I personally know some musician friends who are settled to only perform cover songs. Nothing wrong, if that is their decision. Unless they have a desire or a career dream that is long overdue. And that is, to finally have their own music (available at Spotify). As a big fan of my favorite musicians, I am hoping to hear them perform their very own – originally written songs, not covers. Quizzical, I’m wondering what the real reasons are behind this. What are the explanations why they can’t make their own music. I also know a local band that after making a huge success with their first album, or their first set of original songs, they are struggling to make a follow up album. Mind you, I’m talking about not having another new album after almost 20 long years! They’ve been playing the same set of songs over and over again. It's as if the set of firewood turned into charcoal but dreadfully, they still keep on getting heat from it. It sadly breaks my heart. What saddened me more was when I learned firsthand from my musician friends that though they are famous, they are not rich. Some are not just renowned but also even legendary music icons. Career failed to reward them a fortune to enjoy during retirement. Said poignant experience led me to ask myself some questions: As an artist, how difficult is it to make your own original music? What are the reasons of the cover-musicians, why after so long, they still don’t have their own original song available in Spotify? What are the barriers, if not excuses, in making original music? How can I help struggling artists solve their stumbling blocks? How can I help artist-musicians retire not just famous but rich? To answer all these questions, I decided to write it all in a book. So that it may help not just the artists and musicians I know but also others whom I don’t know that may be helped by this book. The Side-A of my book will share stories on how I got into music. Side-B of the book will share to you all the 5 Albums I released within just a year, that contain at least 50 original songs I wrote, and will generously share the how-to’s in making original music: from getting inspirations, writing the songs, humming melodies, and creating or innovating chord progressions, at least my way. Each of the songs will share the story behind the song’s creation and the concepts or meaning behind the written lyrics of the song. I will also share the various methodologies in making each song to give you an idea that making own music is possible, after all. One more thing, I will share strategies on how to make money through music like through royalties and talent fees and will also attempt to share the how-to’s in making musicians “millionaires” or not just famous but hopefully “rich” and ready for retirement. I hope that my edifying book may serve as a big blessing to y’all! |
